Barrels & Boxes of Flowers The Spring bulbs are a beautiful reminder that it is time to think about what you will plant in your barrel this year. Repair work on the Milford Bridge will mean that the boxes of flowers that have been such a highlight for the past few years will not appear until this time next year. All the more reason to make sure that the barrels and other large containers are especially wonderful for all to enjoy. Diane will have some planted barrels on display at Walkers Greenhouse to provide inspiration and her staff has lots of suggestions if you need specific advice. If you don't intend to use your barrel this year, please let us know so that the Bloomers can move it on to someone on our waiting list. Call Pat 962-1792 or Carolynn 476-2017. The Milford Bloomers will be sponsoring the 3 Best Flower Barrels category at the Milford Fair and we are looking forward to receiving lots of photo entries. South Bay UCW - Continued from page 2 tra-violet light is scheduled to be installed next week. Marge Drury volunteered to chair the May Meet- ing as our President is unable to attend. We will hold our silent auction at this time. Our Committee advised us that we will meet at the church on Tuesday May 25th to set up tables, peel pota- toes, prepare salad for our supper on May 26th. Our collection was received and dedicated. Skip McCormack's program was a report about the course she is taking to preserve her memoirs. She has much to report as she has done a lot of traveling and lead a very full life. The ladies then enjoyed a bountiful lunch (prepared by the ladies who served it) by Barb Balsillie and Merle Woodley and were appropriately thanked by Marge Drury. Once again some of the § County's most talented musicians ~~ § will gather at Mt. Tabor Playhouse in Milford "For the Birds". The concert, which proved to be a popular event last year, will raise funds for the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory, the facility located at the southeastern tip of the County that helps track migrating birds through its banding program. This year's show, scheduled for Saturday, May 22nd, will feature some returning performers as well as some new faces. Jeanette Arsenault, Zeke Mazurek, Bill Ostrander, Paul Johnson, Lenni Stewart and storyteller Janet Kellough will present an eclectic evening of both old favourites and original material. Some special guests may drop by as well. "Everybody had a good time last year," says pro- ducer Kellough. "It's a great night for the performers be- cause they get to play with so many other musicians, and we have such a great time that the audience really picks up on it and has a great time t00." Last year provided some classic moments in the annals of County musical history, most notably the unfor- gettable, and side-splittingly funny "Blues at Breakfast" by Paul Johnson, which featured Jeanette Arsenault and Lenni Stewart on "mouth organ". It's a great night and a great cause - thanks to the statistics compiled by the Observatory, Prince Edward County is now being recognized as a major birding area, rivaling Point Pelee in the numbers and species of birds reported. "For the Birds" starts at 8 p.m. on May 22nd. Tickets are $15 and are available at Books on the Bay, or can be reserved COD (cash or cheque) by calling (613) 476-3988.
