REL RRR Milford Fair - Continued from page 1 joy the meal, with all its fixings, either outside or at seats in the shed. That'll keep you close to Mount Tabor and "good to go" for 7:00 pm. And what about the muffins? Well, that's where one example of real fine-tuning comes in. At the monthly Fair Board meetings we are prepared to deal with issues of any size. At the July meeting the sizes were five and three, and the Fair Board approved a recom- mendation to reduce the required number of muffins en- tered in the baking contest. There are a number of other changes like that one, so if you are planning to enter any contest -- not just the one for muffins -- be sure to pick up a prize list from Hick's Store, or the Library, or the Cheese Factory, and check it out. These booklets will be out soon. When you look at the prize booklet, the first thing you'll see is award-winning art Once again our school students were among the earliest to get to work on the fair, preparing art for entry in the con- tests for the cover of the prize booklet and for advertising posters. We want to thank everybody who put in a draw- ing. There's a lot of talent out there, and you'll be seeing it displayed around town, and at the fair. We also want to congratulate the prizewinners. First prize for the booklet went to Danielle Farrington of Grade One; second prize went to Corey Tuttle of Grade Two; and third prize went to Kirstie Ross of Grade One. First prize for the poster went to Season Todd; second prize to Logen Juffs; and third prize to Olivia Hicks. There are more than prizes for art for the kids. We've got a full day planned. There will be clowns, balloon animals, a fishpond, the playground, competitions, pumpkin decorating, birdhouse building and rides and games. At 1:30 pm everyone will - be crowding 'round to see Judy Cole and her Puppets on stage. At 2:00 pm there will be a whole series of events for children 5 -- 12 on the baseball diamond. The old- fashioned fun will include three-legged races, relays and contests with plenty of prizes to be won and candy for all participants. As for kids, what goes together better than kids and mow- ing the lawn? Well maybe not the kids who are competing at the baseball diamond. And maybe not some of these mowing ma- chines -- if they mow at all. Bill Camp is again organizing a garden tractor-pulling contest. If you saw it last year you'll remember that some of the tractors entered were modified and 'spitting fire' -- pretty impressive! Bill tells us that he expects twenty to twenty-five garden tractors to enter, and that not all of them are modified. In fact, he wants to encourage more of you who are reading this to bring along your garden tractor just to have some fun. There are stock classes as well as modified classes, with prizes for first and second place in all classes. Anyone who has a two-wheel drive stock garden tractor ranging from 10 horsepower to 22 horsepower is welcome to bring it along and "open that baby up". It's not how fast you can go, it's how far you can get, and the Brighton contingent is bringing their pulling sled and coming along to compete again this year. Call Bill at 393-3011 for details. From horsepower to no power. Here's something a little different this year. We're going to have an old car at the fair this year. It's likely to start out dented, and it will have to be towed in. By the time the fair is over it will be nothing but dents -- or maybe paper clips. A group will be using it as a fund-raiser, and they will trade you a sledgehammer for some money. You'li get a chance to have a few swings at the car to see what damage you can do. It will be a good way to work up a sweat. Then you can amble over to the dunk tank and hope that somebody has good enough aim to cool you off. Prizes and more prizes Just like in past years, many generous donors have pro- vided us with plenty of prizes to be won by ticket draws. But this year there's something different. Rather than drawing a few tickets every once in a while -- which can mean missing out on winning if you're not around -- we are going to make the draw part of the afternoon's entertain- ment. From 3:00 pm until 3:30 pm all of the ticket draws will be done at the stage. Those who win will surely be part of the entertainment as we all watch how they react. Although there isn't a prize for the most entertaining reac- tion -- yet. Some prizes are going to the dogs -- and cats Once again we are having a cat and dog show. Once again we are doing something a little bit different. It's always been a fine event -- but hardly anyone saw it, because it was early in the morning. So we've moved the time to 1:00 pm, and we've moved the location from the baseball diamond to the west side of the shed. Which brings us full-circle, back to fine-tuning the fair. Be sure to check the prize booklet when it's available, to see if your contest or event has been changed. Youll read more in next month's Mirror. Hope to see you at the fair.
