The South Marysburgh Mirror ples INEBRIATION Fortunately, I haven't had to tolerate much in the line of inebriation but I have seen and heard of a few cases. It affects different people in different ways. Some get just plain silly; some get pushy; some get flirty; some like to dance; some get downright ugly and some just lie down wherever they happen to be and sleep it off. This can also happen with animals. Cows just love to find a wild apple tree and gorge themselves till all the fruit is gone. If they eat too many, they stagger around and probably end up spread out on the ground. So if bossy doesn't show up at milking time, look for her near an old apple tree. Unfortunately, this has an adverse effect on our bovine friend. She'll probably stop producing milk until her next lactation. (producing milk after she has her next calf) We had a case of inebriation in our barnyard. One of our Toulouse geese was sitting on a nest of eggs. They are very faithful about this and only get off the eggs occa- sionally to get food and drink and answer the call of na- ture. Wilbur had left mash of grain mixed with water for her but she didn't get it gone for two or three days. The weather was warm and the mixture fer- mented. Have you ever seen a drunk goose? She forgot all abut her family-to-be and lay stretched out on the ground beside her nest. She probably couldn't have made it back to her home base even if she had wanted to. Well, we had sad results due to her drunkenness. She was off her nest too long, the eggs got cold and couldn't be re- juvenated. Alas, good-bye little family. - Alice Miller Welcome Wagon South Bay style The congregation of South Bay United Church have taken on the task of officially welcom- ing new residents to the area.
