10 / May 2023 The South Marysburgh Mirror -By Elizabeth Hill We had a pretty exciting April at St. Philip’s, where we worshipped with South Bay United to commemorate Good Friday, and then celebrated Easter back at St. Philip’s, but we also rejoiced with a bap- tism. Now we know baptism is a pretty common occurrence in the church, but in the hamlet of Milford there actually aren’t all that many children. Any- way, we were glad to celebrate with family and friends on this momentous occasion! Also in April, we were pleased to be included in the South Marysburgh community meeting with Mayor Ferguson and our councillor, John Hirsch. We went to the meeting wanting to know how St. Philip’s could better serve our community, however Mayor Fergu- son asked us to let all in attend- ance know what we were already doing. We were happy to describe our various events and activities, including: Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper; Saturday Morning Commu- nity Talks; a monthly Pot Luck Din- ner & Movie Night; monthly ser- vices at McFarland Home, including cake and ice cream at Christmas; monthly donations to Picton Unit- ed Church County Foodbank, and supporting Kate’s Rest. Councillor Hirsch commented that we are very active in the community and how much he appreciates our ac- tivity. It was wonderful to be in- cluded in this meeting, and we got a better understanding of some of the concerns residents of South Marysburgh have. On Monday, May 22, we hope you can join us for St. Philip’s annual canoe trip on Black River. Once again, Har- ley and Karen Guernsey have kindly agreed to provide our launch site from their back- yard at 17 Chapman Cres- cent, in Milford, and we launch at 11:00 a.m. We were so pleased last year to have a large number of kay- aks come out — and hope for the same this year! And in 2022 the “Half-Paddle” was very popular, so once again we will paddle halfway to the lake and then back to the Guernsey’s. Don’t worry, the halfway point will be clearly marked! Then you and your friends and family are invited to come up to St. Philip’s at 44 St. Philip Street in Milford for hot dogs and lemonade. And lastly, we are switch- ing our service time up a bit for the months of May and June 2023. Usually our ser- vice time is 11:00 a.m., but for May and June it will be at 9:00 a.m. This is just a trial period, so see if it works for our parishioners and commu- nity — possibly this earlier time works better for you! The reason for this is because St. Philip’s is a shared minis- try with St. Andrew's, Wel- lington, for our minister Can- on Nancy Beale. By moving our service times we get to have Canon Nancy with us at St. Philip’s for one extra Sun- day a month. You can always find up to date information about everything St. Philip’s is doing on our website at: www.stphilipschurch.ca. And know, we hope to see you soon!
