8 Friday, June 30, 2016 www.brooklintowncrier.com Brooklin Business Joins the Fight Against Hunger During the month of May, associates of Raymond James Ltd., one of North America's leading full-service independent investment dealers, volunteered their time and donated food for those less fortunate. The Raymond James Branch in Brooklin, under the leadership of Bill Howe, Financial Advisor, and Barbara Howe, Branch Administrator, was an enthusiastic participant in this month-long effort to give back to the community. In total, the office raised $12,500 in support of Feed the Need in Durham. This included support from community members, the Rotary Club of Whitby, Bill and Barbara Howe themselves, and the Raymond James Canada Foundation. Bill and Barbara led the fundraising initiative as part of Michael "Pinball" Clemons' campaign to raise 400,000 pounds of food in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in one day. On Monday, June 6, the couple participated in a cheque presentation in Toronto, accompanied by John Tory, Mayor of Toronto, and Michael "Pinball" Clemons, former Argonauts football player and co-founder of the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation. "Giving in its purest sense is best reflected by those spontaneous moments of kindness--a warm smile, holding a door, or other thoughtful actions that confirm our greatness is inextricably tied to our contribution to community," said Clemons. "Success, while desirable, can be self-serving. Our true greatness is not in what we get, but what we give. Martin Luther King suggested, 'Everyone can be great because everyone can serve." On their participation, Bill said, "We are thrilled to be just a small part of such an important initiative. Thank you to our clients, the Raymond James Canada Foundation, and the Rotary Club of Whitby for their generous support."
