Jason Liebregts/Metroland SOME HELP IN THE GARDEN Several charges have been laid against a Montreal man following a Durham police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle Friday afternoon (June 25). The stolen Lexus SUV was involved in crashes with three other vehicles before the pursuit ended in Brooklin, police said. An occupant of one of the vehicles struck during the incident was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The incident began around 2:30 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a plaza in the area of Taunton and Harmony roads in Oshawa. It was confirmed the Lexus SUV had been stolen from a residence in Oshawa earlier in the day, police said. Police didn't locate the vehicle in Oshawa but it was spotted later by officers near Baldwin Street north of Hwy. 407. The vehicle sped away when an attempt was made to stop it and police discontinued the pursuit over safety concerns. "The stolen vehicle continued driving erratically and struck an occupied Dodge Caravan near Winchester Road East and Baldwin Street North and then struck an unoccupied red Audi AQ5 and an occupied GMC Terrain," police said in a media release Monday. "One of the occupants was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries." A suspect fled from the badly-damaged Lexus but was tracked down by a police canine team and arrested in a wooded area. Jean-Baptiste Ronel, 19, of Montreal faces charges including dangers driving and flight from police, vehicle theft, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of crystal methamphetamine.
