WELS, Rita ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Passed away August 9, 2022, at the age of 81 at Lakeridge Gardens in Ajax. Predeceased by her loving husband Carl of 61 years. Mother to Ron (Margaret) and Derek (Laurie) and predeceased by her daughter Kathleen. Grandmother to Stephanie (Kevin & Chloe), Meghan (Andrew), Natalie (Chris), Erin (Riley) and Sarah. Sister to the late Anita Verfaillie and aunt to Corine (Chuck) and Craig (Diane) and their children Adrian (Amy), Jake (Alyssa) and Spencer and great great aunt to Hannah, Keira, and Cameron. Rita was born in Ypres, Belgium and moved to Canada with her family when she was 6 years of age. She met Carl at a job on a tobacco farm and they began their courtship. They were married in 1960 and proceeded to start a family. They tragically lost their beloved daughter Kathleen at the age of 16 in 1979. Rita was proud to work as a laboratory technician at Glazier Medical Center in Oshawa until her retirement. Interests along with her husband included much family time, travelling, involvement in Marriage Encounter, gardening, playing cards and swimming. These activities gave ample opportunity to develop many friendships through her life. Her declining health saw Rita move to Sunnycrest LTC in Whitby where new friendships with staff and residents were made. She will be fondly remembered by her family and those who she touched the hearts of along her journey of life. Private cremation and burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Whitby, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Durham Region would be appreciated. "Love one another as I have loved you" WOODWARD, Gwendolyn "Jean" ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean (Cain) Woodward on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at her home. Born March 18, 1928, she was in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Walter "Jit" Woodward and loving mother to Leah and Tom (Roberta). She will be dearly missed by grandchildren Courtney (Sean), Derrick (Jessica), Jesse (Jessica), Abby and Ally. Also great-grandmo- ther to Noelle and Laura. Predeceased by her siblings Ray, Peg, Audrey (recently deceased July 7, 2022), Glen and Geraldine. Sadly missed and adored by her many nieces and nephews. Jean was born to Alvery Lee Cain and Jennie May Wood on March 18, 1928 in Burnt River. The family moved to Lindsay where she met her future husband, Walter "Jit" Wood- ward. After they married, Jean and Walter moved to Bowmanville where they lived the rest of their lives. Jean loved gardening, was an amazing caregiver for her family, and loved throwing parties. Her favourite pastime was reading The Toronto Star and doing jigsaw puzzles. Jean adored her five grandchildren and two great- granddaughters. Visitation was held at NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNER- AL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville on Wednesday, August 3rd from 2 - 3 p.m., Funeral service followed in the Chapel at 3 p.m. Private Interment Burnt River Ceme- tery. A great outdoorsman, Ross enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Stoney Lake, fishing, swimming, and water skiing with all his family. In the winter, Ross enjoyed ice skating and was an avid cross country skier. He also loved visits with his good friend Bob, golfing with his buddies Harry and Bud, playing pool, casino lunches with his cousins, and spending time with his family. Predeceased by his parents William and Cecelia Davis, adoring sister Ruth McPhee, brothers-in-law James McPhee and Steve Remego, and great nephew Justin. Survived by his loving sister Diane Remego. Loved by his nieces Cindy (Edward), Pam (Dave), and Heather (Mike), nephews Stephen and Scott, great nieces Miranda (Kyle), Rachel (Anthony), Mindy, and Randi, and great-great-nieces Felicity, Everly and his great-great- nephew Colton.
