MAKING C CTIONS.NG CONNEC The Durham Region In- ternational Film Festival has partnered with Cine- chats founder John Arke- lian for a showcase of the best short films submitted. See the films at the Bilt- more Theatre, 39 King St. E., Oshawa, on Sunday, Dec. 11. The doors open at 3 p.m. Take a break from the holiday madness and enjoy nine films chosen for the event. Afterwards, enjoy a drink as Arkelian leads dis- cussion of the movies. The films include "Nef- ta Football Club" by Yves Piat (France), which re- ceived an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film in 2020, and "Giltrude's Dwelling" by Jeremy Lutter (Cana- da). "What is a short film but an entire world contained and cradled in a few brief minutes?" Arkelian said in a news release. "Here you will find a microcosm of life, peopled by characters we come to know, and a sto- ry that unfolds in a fleet- ingly brief span. There's an elegance to such storytell- ing in miniature -- and it is a true testament to the art of filmmaking that laugh- ter, tears, astonishment, and meaning can be so powerfully evoked by such artful brevity." Tickets are $8, available at the Biltmore Theatre box office at tickets.biltmoreth- eatre.com/driff. To see the full film lineup and trailers, visit www.driff.ca/best-of- driff-shorts. DRIFF, CINECHATS TO SHOWCASE THE BEST DURHAM FILM FESTIVAL SHORTS WHAT'S ON A mistake was made in a photo cutline that ran in the Oshawa, Whitby and Clarington newspapers on Nov. 24. Mya Grace Litvak's dance studio, Step With Style, is in Oshawa. It is matching the funds she raises by selling her Hal- loween candy, with the money supporting Dur- ham food banks. Mya is selling her candy door-to-door in Courtice and at Courtice Secondary School. You can make a donation through her Instagram ac- count, @mya.grace.litvak. This Week regrets the error. CORRECTION
