- Description
- The House was built between 1881-1882, for E.D. Tillson who is known as the father of Tillsonburg. It has been designated a national historic site. It is one of the best surviving illustrations in Canada of the Aesthetic Movement promoted by Oscar Wilde. The house itself is an example of the pattern book design, which had a major impact on domestic architecture in Canada. Oscar Wilde popularized the Aesthetic Movement that encouraged bringing "art" into the middle class home. It was declared a historic site on September 22, 1997.
