- As early as 1897, people were able to borrow books from the Tavistock library. In 1902 the library had moved to a new building by the post office. In 1903 the library board started looking into the Carnegie Library Fund, which offered libraries to towns in Canada and was controlled by Andrew Carnegie. In 1916 the Tavistock library board was finally granted Carnegie fund and began construction.
