- The church was built in 1834 and was designed using elements of both Gothic and Classical architectural styles. It is of significance because of its association with Admiral Henry Vansittart and Captain Andrew Drew and the development of the city of Woodstock. Drew came from England to Canada in 1832 as Vansittart's agent to acquire land and invest money on his behalf. The location for the church was chosen with the intention that the town would be built around it. During the rebelion of 1837-38 the church was used as a temporary jail for suspected rebels captured by local militia. The New St Pauls Anglican Church was built in 1879 to accomodate the growing congregation. As a result of relocation Old St Pauls was closed in 1879 and re-opened in 1882 to serve the Anglican Community.
