Description
The first general store was remodeled by Nelson Harris Sr. in 1877 from the hotel built by Mr.Collins. Nelson Harris continued his business for 3 years before he sold the store to E.C. Corbett in 1880. The general store was known as the Ark. E.C. Corbett had 3 clerks he employed. One of the clerks traveled around the town on horse and carriage trading merchandise such as groceries, shoes, soaps, eggs, cow hides, goose feathers and more. E.C. Corbett sold the store to Frank McEwan in 1921. E.C. Cortbett owned the first telephone in Verschoyle. Frank McEwan died in 1926.
