- Description
- Postcard depicts a cartoonish illustrated sailor on a ship, wearing a blue and white naval uniform and a cap which reads "H.M.S. Victory". The card is bordered with blue, red and white.
The card shows signs of wear and tear, particularly at the top, where several small holes are visible. Therefore, the card was likely previously displayed using a thumbtack or pin.
The card's caption reads "What has England got to fear when me an' Jellicoe are here!" - Notes
- The cartoon on the card is illustrated by artist Donald McGill. The card likely originates during World War One, due to the reference to "Jellicoe". This figure was likely British admiral of the fleet John Jellicoe, who commanded from 1914-1916 during the Great War. The card is therefore likely dated from 1914-1918.
The reverse of the card contains text which reads:
"Inter-Art Co., Red Lion Square, London, W.C./ "NAVEE" Series./ No.905./ British production" - Inscriptions
- Card has no inscriptions. Reverse is left blank.
