- ABOUT THE AESTHETIC AWARDS:
The Brantford Aesthetic Awards were awards distributed by the Brantford Regional Chamber of Commerce from 1974 until at least 1998, though it is unclear when the awards stopped being given out.
The Aesthetic Awards are described in an accompanying note as, "[An] Award program... based on area businesses being judged on the aesthetic appeal of their operation. The Aesthetic Awards are sponsored by the Brantford Regional Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Economic Development Board and Parks and Recreation, with 1998 being the 24th year of the awards. A panel of judges visit each nominated business and evaluates their business on numerous criteria. Nominees are divided into three categories: Industrial A - over 100 employees, Industrial B - under 100 employees and Non Manufacturing/ Service. Winners are presented with their award, a framed photograph of their location at City Council in September."

ABOUT SC JOHNSON:
SC Johnson is an American manufacturing company whose Canadian arm was founded in Brantford, Ontario. Its first Canadian plant opened in the City of Brantford in 1920 and has remained at the same location of 1 Webster Street ever since. The Brantford facility manufactures soaps and Glade wax products, and as of 2024 employed approximately 250 people.
The story of SC Johnson's original Brantford Location began on a train ride from Chicago to Toronto in 1919, when SC Johnson owner Herbert Fisk Johnson Sr. had a chance meeting with the charismatic former mayor of Brantford, Morrison MacBride. Johnson, who had been searching for a Canadian city in which to establish a branch of his successful business, was sold on the idea of Brantford Ontario by MacBride over the course of their journey.
The company still operates its headquarters out of Brantford to date and now features two other locations in Canada [in Montreal and Varennes, QC]. In March of 2024, SC Johnson pledged an investment of approximately fifty million dollars to its Brantford facility, meaning the addition of new production lines and dozens of new jobs.
