Summary of Cultural Attributes:
Historical: The Nesbitt Home in Gosport is situated on a ½ acre plot that is part of an 1831 Canada Company grant to John Nix for a 72-acre tract known as the Canal Reserve. In 1854 the tract was acquired by Daniel F. McKenzie, who is believed to have been built the house in 1870. Eventually the property was spilt into smaller parcels and in 1905 Samuel G.M. Nesbitt acquired six lots - three contiguous lots on the north side (with the house) and three on the south side of Price Street.

Following Samuel's death, the six lots and house were passed in 1939 to his wife, Marie Nesbitt. The property changed several times after that and in 1968 was severed into two parts: three lots on the north side and three lots on the south side of the street. In 2001, the north plot with the house was acquired by the present owners, Charlene Ann and Patrick Peter Rittwage.

Architectural: This large, yellow with white trim,1 ¾ storey house displays a Folk Victorian style. It is L-shaped and features a front wrap-around, large lower veranda and upper balcony on the L and another pair on the other end of the house; all four gave a view of Presqu'ile Bay and feature short Tuscan columns. The front of the house proper has a three-window bay, with an upper double window below the gable, which is marked by a gable post. The front door features a high transom, and the windows - singles and doubles - are one-over-one (believed to be original). The facade is a combination of stucco and board-and-batten.
