Summary of Cultural Attributes:
Historical: The Stewart Farm House is on a 100-acre tract that was an 1845 Crown Patent to Charles S. Becker for the south half of Lot 31, Concession 3. It was sold to Abraham Searls in 1851 and then to William Taylor in 1853. The Taylors are believed to have built a frame or log house on the farm in their early years and then replaced it with the present red brick house in 1893 on the northwest corner of the farm. Further during the Taylor's tenure, the first Carman Church, a Wesleyan Methodist, was built on the northeast corner of the farm. This church was demolished some time after the present-day Carman Church was built three kilometers to the east in1879. Ownership of the farm transferred to other Taylors as follows: Manfred C. Taylor in1902; Albert W. Taylor in 1908. Stirling P. and Edna E. Stewart bought the farm in 1950, and in 1976 it went to their son, Peter S. Stewart and his wife, Rosemary. In 2005 it transferred to the present owners, Bruce A. and Beverly A. Stewart.

Architectural: The 1 ¾ storey, red brick with white trim house is Gothic Revival in style. It is L-shaped with front wrap-around veranda and a rear tail in white stucco, topped with a bell at the peak. There are two peaked gables with rounded-arch Romanesque windows. The lower floor windows are slightly arched. The front door has side windows and a transom. Most windows and doors are believed to be original. The peaks for the two Ls have prominent cornices with decorative brackets. The exterior of the house is very well kept.
