Summary of Cultural Attributes:
Historical: This house is situated on 75-acre farm that is part of an 86-acre Crown Patent to Jeremiah Scripture in1808 for all of Lot 6, Concession BF in then Cramahe Township. While it is believed a house was built on the property in 1850, ownership is unclear; OLR records indicate the 86 acres were sold by Thomas Singleton in 1853 to Wm. Mathew, whose estate in turn sold it to Henry Huff in 1856. Henry, who was a local cooper, is believed to have built, in the 1880s, the house as seen today. Solomon S. Huff became the registered owner in 1892. In 1942, a George Henry Huff and wife sold the property to Wm. John and Joseph McAully. Thereafter it changed hands a few times and in 1971 it was acquired by the present owner, Pamela J. Pettigrew (described in OLR records as the part N of Lake St.)

Architectural: This two-storey, red brick with white trim has some Gothic Revival elements albeit the windows are rectangular with slightly arched lintels. It is L-shaped, the recessed wing having a large open veranda, which features brick supported large pillars to support the roof that protects two windows and a door leading into the main part of the house. The main entrance is on the front, covered by a brick and columnar-supported roof. Some of the windows, believed to be original, have one-over-one panes, whereas some have been replaced and show different styles. The soffits and fascia are believed to be original.
