Summary of Cultural Attributes:
Historical: This house is situated on a town lot that is part of parcel deeded in 1849 by Sheriff Henry Ruttau to Thomas D. Sanford, after whom the street is named. In 1858, it was acquired by Henry Squier, who was Brighton's first Reeve (1859-60 and again 1862-63); it is likely he built a house on the property, which he held until 1867. In 1877, the property was acquired by Elizabeth A. Webster, who is believed to have built the existing house and a detached carriage shed in 1890. In its early years it was a farm house.
In 1914, it was granted to Frederick Ball and then in to the Rev. E. A. Allomius and two trustees of St. Paul's Church. In 1956, it was granted to William A. Page and then following his death to Lillian G. Page. Ownership changed several times in the period 1993 to 2004, when it was purchased by the present owners, Wayne Gary and June Irene Armstrong.
Architectural: This picturesque 1 ¾ storey white frame house is L-shaped (it now has white aluminum siding). The large front end has a closed-in veranda with a balcony accessed by an upper Romanesque door under the gable. The recessed L has an open veranda with a central door and peaked gable with a two-over-two window. Both gables have fancy bargeboard-like gable decorations and posts.
