"Ames-Morgan Nuptials: A very pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Morgan, of Codrington, on Wednesday of last week, when their daughter Florence Anna, was united in marriage to Mr. Kenneth G. Ames, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ames. The ceremony was peformed by Rev. Mr. Hill, of Hilton, in the presence of about fifty fo the near relatives and friends of the contracting parties. After a sumptuous dinner, the wedding party motored to Brighton where Mr. and Mrs. Ames took the train for Toronto, and will spend a short honeymoon in Rochester and other American cities. The gifts to the bride were exceptionally beautiful and costly, a testimony to her popularity with her many friends. •Death*: 20 July 1962; In Ambulance, Tyendanaga Twp, Hastings Co., Ontario; "The Late Kenneth G. Ames: The community was schocked on Friday to learn of the death of Kenneth Gladstone Ames, well known here as the proprietor of Ames Coach Lines and of the local school buses. He passed away in ambulance on the way to Kingston General Hospital. He had suffered an attack earlier in the day and was taken to the Campbellford Memorial Hospital. Born in Codrington, May 23, 1899, he was the son of the late Walter Ames and Linnie King. He came to Campbellford 28 years ago. He was a member of St. John's United Church. He is survived by Mrs. Ames, who was formerly Florence Morgan, three sons, Morgan, Clare and Fred of Campbellford and a daughter June who is a teacher in Havelock, two brothers Lloyd of Codrington and Vern of Hamilton and a sister, Mrs. Harry Jacques (Ollie) of Campbellford. Dr. D. M. Smth of St. John's United Church conducted the funeral service on Monday, July 23 at Bennett's Funeral Home. The pallbearers were Messrs. Hector McMillan, Orval Benns, Cecil Bertrand, Don Little, Leo Baker, and Gar Irwin. The flowerbearers were Jim West, Tom smith, Erle Gillespie, Lawrie Nesbitt, Thos. Fox, Jack Linn, Wm. D Scott, Chas. Mahoney, Roy Barnum, Jack Fry, David Orser, John Petherick, Neil McCulloch, Art Bertrand and Roy McCulloch. •Note: 1915; Cod Field, Codrington, Northumberland Co., Ontario; "When a battalion was being transferred from Brighton to Campbellford they stopped in the field behind the present Carmen Ruttan residence for supper, which was provided by the Institute ladies. Lloyd Ames recalls that his father's watering trough was a blessing to the horses that pulled the mess wagons, also to the many tired feet. At this point there was an exchange of horses for the balance of the trip. John Goodfellow remembers, as a little boy, following the marchers as far as the 8th concession, when the teacher led her pupils back to Mount Olivet School.." "In 1915 a contingent of soldiers marched from Brighton to Campbellford where they entrained for Belleville. when they arrived inb Codrington at noon, they stopped in the field south of the Walter Ames home, west of Carman Ruttan's present residence. Here the soldiers removed their socks and boots and washed their feet in the watering trough. Tents were set up and the officeers at chicken, the soldiers ate ?? . Ames' kitchen table was used for the food. Codrington ladies supplied cakes and ?? for their desert. Fresh horses were supplied by Codrington men to drive the mess waggon on to Campbellford. As a small school boy, John Goodfellow remembers following behind with teacher Maggie Jordan and the other students, as they marched on to the train and the students returned to Mount Olivet." Note: These lines are hand written in spaces around pictures and newspaper articles about WWI. There is no signature but I assume they were written by Margaret (Atkinson) Goodfellow, who was much involved in working on "The Tweedsmuir Histories of Codrington", and was the wife of the John Goodfellow mentioned in the story.9

•Illness*: October 1924; Codrington, Northumberland Co., Ontario; Charles Buchanan recalls that Ken Ames injured himself badly while plowing and was unable to continue farming. The story is that he was walking beside the tractor and plow while it was moving, adjusting something, when his pant leg got caught in the plow. His leg was broken in several places and he was laid up for many months. Lloyd Ames returned from his honeymoon to find that his brother had been injured and that he would have to do Kenneth's farm work while he recovered. Eventually, Kenneth decided to sell.

There was considerable friction between the brothers over this. Their dad had given them each (Vern, Kenneth and Lloyd) equal shares of the farm. Vern became a teacher and moved away and Lloyd intended on farming. For a while Kenneth kept the east/north part as his own farm.

Note: William A. McGee sold the farm the next year to Gordon Preston McGee who farmed it during the period that the Buchanan's lived at Codrington. Bill and Ronnie were close play buddies during the growing up years.11

Dan Buchanan recalls taking Fred's bus to the CNE in Toronto and also, routinely, seeing Fred's buses rolling through Codrington.9
