Note: between 1940 and 1945; Germany; "Fred Mutton, son of the late Joseph Mutton enlisted Feb. 22nd, 1940 in Kingston, Reinforcement for RCHA No. C330 - Rank - Gunner. He went to Petawawa with A-Battery, May 22, 1940. Two months later he sailed from Halifax, July 22, on the Polish ship, Sobisky, and arrived at Greenock, Scotland, Aug 1., 1940. From there he went to Borden, Hants. About Nov., 1, 1940, he was transferred to 14th Bty, 4th Field Regiment at Aldershot. he was stationed at several places in England. Although he and Clarence Mutton were not always at the same places, they were always within a few miles of one another. After Clarence was wounded, Fred was in Richald Forest. He went back to Holland at Ulft; Laren, Archem. He was sent back to Germany again and was at Bockhorm near Oldenburg, May 4, 1945, when Germany surrendered. Although he had several narrow escapes, he went through it all practically without a scratch. He left Southampton for Canada on the Louis Pasteur ship, arriving in Halifax July 1, 1945, and was discharged Aug. 6, 1945." from page 110 of "Ours To Remember" by Mary Ann Down, given to me by Shirley (Goodfellow) Bird, Sep. 3, 2004.2
