Occupation*: 1887; Conc 4 Lot 32, Brighton Twp., Hilton, Northumberland Co., Ontario; After his father died in 1887, Ben along with his brothers, Will and Tom continued to farm at Hilton until 1901. It appears Tom left in 1897 to go to Winnipeg. The farm at Hilton (Hilton is located north of the present Hwy 401 on the road (Hwy 30) between Brighton and Campbellford.) was owned by Thomas Wragg of Belleville. Thomas was married to Elizabeth's sister, Emily Stuart.

Residence: 22 November 1912; Conc 1 Lot 17, Percy Twp., Norham, Northumberland Co., Ontario; Land Records show that Robert A. Landford & wife sold 45 acres called the Cowie Mill Property for $4,800 to William, Elizabeth and Benjamin Buchanan. It was sold "... with all machinery acc. to deed & all lands overflowed as per deed." There was a mortgage of $1,600 held by John Service. (Instrument 7893)

Occupation: 1914; Percy Twp., Warkworth, Northumberland Co., Ontario; After selling the farm Ben bought the Osborne Funeral Home in Warkworth. He also later bought the general store and ran a small construction company which did small construction jobs painting etc. On his marriage registration he lists his occupation as farmer.13

Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Stuart had a family reunion gathering at their home first of the week. Among ????? were Mr. and Mrs. Henry (?) Haynes, Carrying Place, Mrs. Buchanan and son William, Norham, Mrs. James Anderson and son James Stuart, Morganston, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Buchanan, Norham."
Note: Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Stuart were David Christopher Stuart and Abbie Valleau. He is a brother of Elizabeth - Mrs. John Buchanan.
Mrs. Buchanan is Elizabeth (Stuart) Buchanan and William is William Busby Buchanan, Charles Buchanan's father. They lived on the Cowie Mill Property in Norham at this time. Ben still owned the farm south of Norham although this is around when he bought the Osborne Funeral Home in Warkworth.
Mrs. James Anderson was Leila Stuart, daughter of the hosts. Her son Stuart Alexander (referred to here as James Stuart ??) was a baby.14
