They went by Colonist train which was a number of Colonist cars and freight cars loaded from roof to floor with settlers' effects. They left the Colonist train at Winnipeg, moved to Gladstone, finally settling for two years in the Glendate district, then moving onto Glensmith at the base of the Riding Mountains. Their homestead was two miles south of Glensmith, SW 1/4 section 6-19-14. He was to arrange with the different Clergyman throughout the west, the number and kinds of immigrants they required and send them to the various locations. In November 1905, Grandfather, his wife and six children moved to England. The boys went to school in Streatham where they lived and the girls to Valleyfield Girl's School. While there, Grandfather preached in Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Chapel. Each summer they came back to Manitoba ... Note: 1923; Northumberland East Riding, Northumberland Co., Ontario; "In 1923, the Major was asked to run as the Conservative candidate for the Northumberland East Riding of the Provincial Legislature and defeated the U.F.O. candidate Wes Montgomery and became a member of the Ontario Legislature. During the next three years, the Major made many speeches for his party and was particularly adept at uttering stinging phrases which raised the ire of the Liberals. It was reported "Major Belford has already proven that he is a valuable acquistion to the Conservative Party at Queen's Park.
