- This record states Coronation Day as 1936 but actually it is May 12, 1937. The children on the grounds of a house are Jack Morgan, Evelyn Brooks, Marian Michael, and Edna Morgan. The abandoned coronation of Edward VIII was due to take place on May 12, 1937. When he abdicated on December 11, 1936, George VI ascended the throne with his wife, Elizabeth, Queen Consort. George VI decided to continue with the coronation date of May 12, 1937
