- Description
- Central Hotel, on Main Street in Brighton, Ontario at approximately 31 to 39 Main Street. The hotel is a brick building with a carriage to the right with 1 driver. There is also an enclosed carriage in front of the front door with 2 horses - on the side is written .....Don's Bus Lines". There is a sign in a window in the right side of the hotel with "Sounds of Christmas". The Central Hotel had its own livery stable behind the hotel facing Park Street. This stable burned in 1921 in a fire that destroyed the Central Hotel and 8-10 other businesses (including J.B. Smith Dry Goods, Dominion Hardware, Becker's Bazaar & Ensign Printing Office). The Central Hotel was the terminal from Campbellford to the Grand Trunk and CP stations. It was also a stopping point for travellers since it was midway between Cobourg and Belleville (22 miles each way)
