Description
A residence on Main Street is missing its front porch and the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church lost its steeple in the tornado.

In the early evening of Friday July 13, 1973 a tornado touched down in Brighton, Ontario.

Witnesses and meteorological data indicate the twister was on the ground for approximately 32 seconds.

The result was the destruction of more than 100 century-old trees that had graced both sides of Main Street, damage to homes, businesses, churches, the former Brighton Town Hall, and vehicles.

Fortunately, injuries were minor.

Within minutes, the community rallied, and within days, most of the debris cleared and repairs well under way.

This collection is part of the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the tornado.
