Mark H. Kellogg, 1833-1876
A Pioneer Telegrapher and Brighton, Ontario, Canada Native. Kellogg of La Crosse in 1851-67, 1870-71, died a civilian newspaper correspondent with about 201 other men of U.S. Army 7th Cavalry, June 25-26, 1876, in Battle of Little Big Horn, Montana Territory. He is buried at Custer Battlefield National Monument. During May 17-June 25 Cavalry Infantry Operation, Led by Gen. Terry and Finally by Lt. Col. George Custer, Kellogg kept diary, sent back news dispatches for Bismarck. (D.T.) Tribune and New York Herald. His wife, former Martha Robinson, is buried in family plot below plaque here. In La Crosse, he was first press telegrapher. A democrat editor, firemen, store partner, a parent. Sioux Indians, among the slayers, earlier in awe of his electrical code transmissions, said Kellogg could make the paper talk. He was an apparent courageous, on-the-scene pagesetter of today's inquiring newspaper, radio, television reporters.

Ralph and Eugenia Bangay founded and operated Memory Junction Museum at 60 Maplewood Avenue, Brighton, Ontario from 1995 to 2017. Ralph's love of history and astute eye for memorabilia, including artifacts, photos, deeds, and documents soon created a gathering place for Brighton history.
