- Marilyn 'Rose' Marie Cheer Ellery (May 26, 1936 - April 22, 2024) was a lifelong resident of Brighton, Ontario. She was a municipal councillor for 23 years, and a community leader. In 1974, Rose and two others founded Applefest, the Municipality's fall fair and a celebration of Brighton's once global role in apple production. Brighton is still home to many orchards, reflecting this important agricultural history.
For 50 years, Rose collected Applefest history, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and videos. She donated it to the Brighton Digital Archives, and for that and so many other reasons, we are grateful to Rose for her stewardship of our heritage.
