John Allen Brock (b.1849) managed a studio under the name of Brock & Co. He enjoyed a fairly long career, working between the years of 1870 and 1907. Brock operated studios in Belleville and Trenton, offering his sitters a variety of backdrops from which they could chose. The mattes of his photos also indicated that he had a strong client base in Brighton and Colborne. Brock & Co. had some cache in the region. A photographer named Smith, possibly Wellington Smith, had established himself on Prince Edward Street in Brighton around 1890. Smith had previously worked at John Brock's studio as his photo matte proudly stated "late of the firm Brock & Co."(see photo below).
(Cramahe Township Digital Archives has a Smith studio portrait of Emily Mutton and Mary Ann Mutton in their collections. Smith's photo matte noted both Brighton and Colborne as his areas, perhaps to chagrin of Brock).
