Description
This fact sheet details the activities organized by the Belize Rural Women's Association. It reflects on how the Belize Agricultural Society sponsored workshops in rural districts to address the problems facing small farmers. New ventures were suggested and led to the establishment of public health workshops, technical workshops, and farmers markets designed for women across the countryside. The photographs in the fact sheet feature women involved in the Belize Rural Women's Association as they present at conferences, meetings, and roundtables on issues related to gender inequality in the Belizean countryside.
Notes
Established in 1979, the Belize Rural Women's Association is a non-political association of women committed to improving the lives of the nation's rural communities. The association was formed to address certain issues affecting poor- and working-class women in the hinterland of Belize. It has created a national forum to encourage rural women so make their voices heard and to speak-out on domestic violence, poverty, health, and other issues affecting their lives.
