- Description
- This pamphlet, distributed by the People's National Party (PNP), focuses on the importance of women in the struggle for social democracy in Jamaica. The document portrays Jamaican women as the "anchors" of the nation's homes, communities, and economy, while emphasizing the barriers imposed by a capitalist society. The document stresses these themes by pointing to the lack of jobs and skilled training programmes, child care programmes, and guarantees for maternity leave. The goal of the document was to invite women to support the party and its agenda.
- Notes
- The People's National Party (PNP) is the leading social-democratic political party in Jamaica. Founded by O.T. Fairclough and Norman Washington Manley, the PNP emerged from the British West Indian labour uprising as the oldest political party in Jamaica. It governed the island on a "democratic socialist" agenda from 1972 to 1980.
