- made from sweetgrass and straw over cardboard base; coloured purple, green, yellow; cover is oval tubular shape; Indian design on the outside; inside of cover is yellow and purple; from the outside edge the design is 4 purple lines with yellow in the middle, gren and yellow squares in a vertical line; 4 purple and yellow lines again, small black and yellow squares, 5/8" of diagonal design and a repeat of the previous
- bottom - outside is yellow, green and purple; pattern is 1 large purple line, yellow, yellow and purple vertical squares, green, yellow and purple horizontal lines and repeatof the design; diagonal ray pattern at one end of the lines; other end is carved bone; inside is yellow and purple stripes

- 2.25 inches L
- belonged to John Chester, great-grandfather of the donor, who was born in 1824 and died in 1905; when he lived at the house in Glenwood, Chief Jones camped nearby on his way to Detroit; he gave the matchbox to John Chester as a gift
