originally purchased by Hugh McClelland, a collector and dealer from Wheatley, who purchased it from a farm in Kent County in 1975; it was sold at his estate sale in 1993 to Sally Johnson (an antique dealer in Blenheim); sold to museum in January, 1997; bottle was made by a German prisoner of war in early 1940s; most of the POW's were naval from submarines, where building ships in bottles was a common hobby
