- (A) black; metal; round base; font for lamp; small hole at top for wick holder (B) to sit; threads on to ring to screw onto (C); narrow wire sticks up from hole and curves back down; wire comes out small hole on bottom of base (D-8.3cm, H-8.6cm)
(B) metal; hollow cylinder; round disc with curved notch is attached to middle; holds wick; sits in hole of (A); green cloth cord comes out of bottom and hangs in front (L-4.5cm, D-2cm)
(C) metal; mesh cylinder runs up middle surrounded by 3 poles; bottom edge is threaded to fit onto (A); hinged lid is held closed withmetal I hook; I hook on top of lid connects to round metal handle
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
