- (A) - 3 metal legs, painted black, flared out at top and slightly at bottom; attached near bottom to metal ring with lip inside bottom for (B) to rest, painted black
(B) - round metal can with threaded neck opening at top, 2 metal tubes with remnants of rubber hose at end protrude from one side, one shorter metal tube protrudes from top of other side (L-21cm, W-9.5cm, H-17.5cm)
(C) - threaded metal cap for (B) (D-6.6cm, H-2.3cm)
(D) - metal cylinder, closed at bottom, wire loop handle attached to side at top, rib under handle (on which it rests when inserted into hole at top of (B)) (L-15cm, W-5cm, H-12.2cm)
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
