- (A) - square wood base with brown cardstock backing on bottom affixed with 20 nails, black plastic disc on each corner of bottom
- 2 metal plates attached to wood with bolts with spool shaped nuts screwed on; other end of plates has black knob; plates can be depressed to make contact with slotted screws; "B" is engraved next to left hand plate, "G" is engraved next to right hand plate
- above movable plates is one rectangular metal plate secured to wood with metal bolts with spool shaped nuts on top; "R" is engraved on left hand side above nut, "X" is engraved on right side above nut
- forming a V are 10 brass cylinders; cylinder at right side has spool shaped nut on top; sylinder on left side has 2 spool shaped nuts on top; cylinders inbetween end two have semicircular notch cut out to hold (B-G); at point of V is a spool shaped nut; "G" engraved under last cylinder on left; "B" engraved in point of V; cutouts are engraved with: "100"; "10"; "1"
- small plaque secured to cntre of box with two nails reads: "THE GEO. M. HENDRY CO., LTD/PHYSICAL AND/CHEMICAL APPARATUS/TORONTO,CANADA"
(B-G) slightly tapered brass cylinder topped with a ribbed black plastic knob (L-3cm, D-1cm)
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
