- Telegraph transmitter
(A) - wooden rectangular base with rounded corners; top right corner is engraved: "4 OHMS" in between 2 bolts that are inserted from the bottom and secured with 2 nuts; at centre left, secured with 2 bolts from bottom is a piece of metal with 1 1/2 arches cut into it, an inverted "L" entends from the top centre of the 1/2 arch
- an inverted, black painted metal "u" is secured to the base with 2 bolts from the bottom; a bolt and nut protude from the top of the "u"; a metal bar connected through the sides of the "u" secure a square metal bar; a spring extending below the nut and bolt fits into a hole at one end of the square bar; once the bar passes throught the "u" a metal plate with rounded ends is attached perpendicular to the bar with a screw; below each end of the plate, a spool shaped metal cylinder with black fabric tape in the centre is attached to a metal base that sits on the wooden base and is secured with 2 screws from the bottom; there is wire connecting the 2 spools and a piece of wire extends from each spool, through a hole in the wooden base and is attached to bolts on the bottom; further along the square bar, a nut and bolt are attached to the top before the end fits into the space between the top of the arched and the inverted "L"
- black painted metal oval on right side attached with 2 screws at bottom; a "t" shaped metal bar is secured with a bolt on the left and right and pivots on this axis; a bolt with a nut protrudes down from the top of the "t"; just below the pivot point, a bolt with a nut rests in a spring below the bar; the bar ends with a flat black plastic disk parallel to the bar; a metal arm is attached at the top left of the oval and pivots, it ends at the bottom right with a black plastic knob the arm can be moved under a metal strip that is attached at the bottom of the oval; a metal disk that comes to a point is on one end of the metal strip; the point corresponds to a small metal nub attached to the underside of the "t"
(B) - same a (A); a piece of red and green thread wrapped wire is attached to the bolt to the left of "4 OHMS"
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
