- wooden base; curved edges; bottom bevelled edge; on base are 3 terminals, posts with spool shaped nuts on top, sitting parallel to front edge
- wooden rectangle with concave sides and rounded top attached to base at back edge; covering this is a piece of silver metal secured with 3 nails; front of metal has clear plastic window at top edge; embossing under window reads: "L.E. KNOTT APPARATUS/CO./BOSTON"; decorative embossed curls under words
- inside window is white paper with curved, black graduated lines; black print under lines read in part: "VOLTS STUDENTS' VOLT-AMMETER AMPS/No./FOR CONTINUOUS CURRENT/[?]"; small black rod with point on end pivots to point to graduated lines
- metal rectangle sticks out from bottom edge; slit down centre; large screw in centre hole of rectangle; spool shaped nut on top
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
