(A) -textured black metal elongated traingular case; one end has black metal tube with clear lens mounted in centre; opposite end has black textured metal cylinder cut in half and attached with a bolt; t-shaped metal with ends bent at a 90 degree angle to form a box-like structure attached to the lower side of the semi-cylinder, a spring connects two opposite ends and one of the other ends has a black plastic coated wire attached that runs into a hole in the semi cyinder; metal clip is attached perpendicular to the end beside the semi-cylinder; next to it, an "L"-shaped piece of metal is attached to the corners and has a black textured metal cover
- "t"-shaped piece of black textured metal is attached to the bottom of the triangular case with a black metal handle screwed into the centre
(B) - black rubber cylinder with a flared end (D- 4.1cm, H-3.9)
C) - black textured metal tripod with a bolt screwed into the top of the centre tube; manufacturer's label affixed to one leg reads in part : "THE WELCH SCIENTIFIC COMPANY/…/ESTABLISHED 1880/[?]CHICAGO. U.S.A." (L-14.7cm, W-17.2cm, H-10.7cm)
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
