Since 1999 I have been working on a family history about the four families that constituted my maternal and paternal grandparents, all of whom left England (three of them from Kent and Sussex) in the 1830s and 1840s and settled in Prince Edward and Hastings Counties in Eastern Ontario. I was born in Prince Edward County but have lived in the US and elsewhere for almost thirty years at this point. When I started the project following my retirement, I made a number of lengthy vacation style trips to places like Picton, Trenton, Belleville and Kingston for research purposes. In recent years I have relied increasingly on the web. Today, I came across a couple of family members who lived in Chatham between 1904 and 1906 and decided to check the local city directories there. To my surprise, your library had digitized all three of the directories which I needed (and many more). I answered my own questions in less than thirty minutes. I can't thank you enough for that or for the work that libraries like yours are doing to preserve the past. It is a great service and one not fully appreciated by the community at large. Keep it up. Our descendants will appreciate the effort. Tom Campney.
