THE HICH COURT OF JUSHCE. :r. -- INVALUAB~~EV~RY LADY. I . f.i a . lTJiEW'~ ' Friday, f~e llt~ Oa1 of Jul~, 1884, . SUNDAY PARADES. Sm,- In the hope of staying what is apparently going to issue in a serious ill to our community, I write these few lines to the STATF.SMAN. Our t own has long been noted for its quiet Sabbaths, where christians could worship their ..M:aker under their own vine and fig t ree, none daring to molest or m ake th em afraid. Recently, however, there has been a change in this i·espect . · Our hallowed Sabbaths have been converted into a meaningless parade aml exhibition. Instead of ;i,· sacred day, h oly, acceptable unt o the L ord, the quiet of home is disturbed, the work of the Sabbath School seriously interfered with, and church services molested. Complaints have been made against the Salvation Army in their pomp and parade, accompanied by discordant music, and not without just cause; but when our citi7.en soldiers in all their war paint assume the same role, it is time that Zion's watchmen were upon their watchtowers. I write in sorrow, l\fr. Editor, because I have strong sympathies wit h the Army in their work, and because t he course pursued by them is in opposition to th e wishes of some of t he 11est citizens in the~own, and as a. consequence, their syn:iy.tthies are gradually being withdrawn. I have also a high. estimate of our noble voluntoers and h ope as true men to country and queen, they will be none the less loyal to the gr eat Captain of their salvat ion, and remem.ber the Sabbath day to k eep it h oly, and, unless when in camp and on regular duty, will positively refuse to be made an exhibition of to please any man, whether he be priest or prophet. Unless t he christian con1 munity ent er a strong protest now, an irresistible t ide may sweep from us that which is sacrecl to every lover of right, viz., our christian Sabbath.
