<e"NEEDED AS COU NCILLORS * Friday, November 22nd. is Civic NI'omination day in the village, a day *which should concern every ratepayer in the municipality, flot just the faith- -fui few who trudge up tb the council chamber to nominate the faithful few who are willing to give of their tirne and talents to administer to the affairs of the village. To those who have neyer attended a civic nomination meeting, may we advise them that this is the place to hear the reports of the civic adminis- ,tration and to learn somne of the prob- ,lems facing our Council, School Board anid Public Utilities Commission and to present the questions you may have with regard to the administration and to have them answered to the hest of ,,.their ability by the retiring officials, *rather than cornplaîning about the way thirigs are run on the street corners. There is no doubt we ail have mis- givings about the manner in which isome of our cîvie matters are being ldledbn~ut. nîmut remç'mher that must be understood that in order to nominate a candidate for any munici- pal office, that person must be present at the meeting, or send a letter to the clerk of the municipality stating that he or she will accept nomination. It goes without saying that, if the crowd warranted it, the officiais would be pleased to open the main auditorium of the hall to accommodate the citizens who attended the nomination meeting and we have, in this village, enough ratepayers to comfortably f iii the main auditorium of the community hall. For this reason we cannot understand why so few of these people are interested enough bo attend this annual meeting of ratepayers bo learn how business is being run, or to take part in the nom- ination of those who will be candidates who wilI run for office in the forth- coming election. We believe at least two candidates should be nominated for each office and let the voters decide by ballot who should fill the offices.
