Mr. and Mrs. Trueman Henderson returned last Mon- day from a short holiday in Florida. While there, they visited Mr. and Mrs. L. Boisvert at Deland, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Martell at Fort Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stapleton at New Port Richey and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Martin at Lakeland. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Tomp- kins have returned home, after several weeks' holiday in the sunny south, also, Mrs. Stella Elliott and son Bud. Glad to hear Mrs. Leone Lane is makin satisfactory progress after having under- gone surgery in Toronto General Hospital on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Jones spent several days last week in Toronto. Visitors the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Fletcher included Mr. and Mrs. Rich- ard MacCarl, Whitby; Mr. and Mrs. Clare Goodman and Mrs. S. McAllister of Bowmanville: Mr. and Mrs. Keith Fletcher and Kevin of Downsview; Mr. Don Fletcher, Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vice of Oshawa, Mrs. Mary Smith. Mr. Roy Smith returned home from Memorial Hospital last Wednesday. Mr. Bud Jones of Edmonton came east on a business trip last week arriving here on Wednesday evening for a visit with his mother and other relatives. He returned to Edmonton on Sunday. Thursday evening, Mr. F. Gilmer, attending the regular monthly general meeting of Branch 178, Bowmanville Le- gion was the bearer of a letter from Cub Leader, Bob Wil- sher, requesting possible as- sistance by way of a cash donation which would enable the Pack to purchase mater- ials for crests, neckerchiefs etc. To date, they have had no sponsors, so it has been quite a struggle at times to secure the necessary items required for their activities. President Stan Dunn read the letter aloud and it was so favorably received by him and all those present that a motion was passed unanimously to give a donation of $200 to the 1st Newtonville Cubs and Vent- urers. Needless to say, this is greatly appreciated by the Newtonville Groups and Lead- ers. The Mothers' Auxiliary will assist with the making of the necessary items. Mr. Don Vnkle is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital in Intensive Care, as of last Wednesday. Our best wishes are extended for a speedy recovery. We are informed that there will be another sale of "Hot dogs" at our local school, March 13, the money from which will go toward the fund being raised for the school trip. Also, on March 19, an Art and Craft show will be seen at the school, and a sale of good used toys, proceeds of which will also go toward the trip. Starting Wed. March 5th, each Wednesday and Friday nights, the school will be used under the auspices of the Department of Recreation of the new town of Newcastle. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Bou- ghen and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Gardner accompanied the Couples' Club on their Satur- da1 night bowling in Bowman- ville. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Samis were Friday nîght visitors with Mr. and Mrs. George Kimball, Newcastle. Messers. Ross Brown and Trueman Henderson were among the bus load from this area attending tme nocKey game at Maple Leaf Gardens Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Henderson of Oshawa were Saturday evening guests with Mr. and Mrs. F. Hender- son. Rev. Montgomery's topic Sunday morning on the third Sunday in Lent was "The Divine Critic," while the choir sang "Jesus Is the Man For Me." There will be a meeting of all the Newtonville Stew- ards in the Sunday School hall, on Wed. March 12. Remember the World Day of Prayer in our Sunday School hall on Friday March 7 at 2 p.m. Guestspeaker will be Mrs. Mary Worralland guest soloist, Mrs. Irene Montgom- ery. All ladies of Newtonville, Kendal and Shiloh are invited. Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Scott, Oshawa were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Willsher and boys.
