Say You're Uberal I~ THAT'S WHAT MOST VOTERS ARE GOING TO DO SEPT. l8th RECENT POLLS SHOW THE LIBERAL PARTY WILL FORM OUR NEXT ONTARIO GOVERNMENT FOR STRONG REPRESENTATION IN DURHAM EAST CAST YOUR VOTE FOR EDUCATION - Mr. Davis claims that his opinion surveys indicate that people in Ontario are not concerned about the quality or costs of education. I disagree. And so do the parents, students, trustees and teachers who are closest f0 the school system. We are concerned, and with justification, about the lack of qualify, the elimination of standards, and the sharp increases in cost in the years since Mr. avisfirst became Minister of Education. A Liberal government's priorities will be to establish a core curriculum, to set standards for excellence, and to pare administrative costs. HOUSING - The housing shortage in this province is a shocking indictment of the inability of the Davis government to effectively manage our resources. We have land for housing more than 100,000 acres of it is owned by the Ontario government. We have an abundance of construction materials. We have an underemployed work force in the building trades. But the Davis government has completely failed to mould these elements into a satisfactory programme to get houses built. One of our highest priorifies in government will be to provide an adequate supply of housing at prices that people can afford. p i I Ontario Hydro proposes to build the largest nuclear generating station ever just a mile or so east of Oshawa. Approval by the Davis Government is imminent and was probably postponed to try to avoid an election issue. Many of the dangerous problems of mining, refining and disposing of uranium are unsolved. The problems of emmissions and operating accidents are not fail- saf e and could be catastrophie. I authored a resolution which was adopted by the Municipality of Newcastle which asked the Provincial Ministry of Energy to fully explain the implications of the proposed plant and nuclear generation in general to our citizens and then hold a referendum. The Minister of Energy's comment was "no way." My position on the proposed nuclear generating station a mile or so east of Oshawa is simply to sup- port the town's resolution asking for full public explanation of ail implications and then tO LET YOU DECIDE. u I I A , Bown
