Bowmanville won the best of three series in two straight games, 3-i and 5-1. Markham opened the scor- ing quickly in the opening period and appeared to be on their way ton big game. At the 7:20 mark of the same period, Brent Neill evened the score. the assist going to bis centre- man Chris Dreossi. In the middle stanza, Neill scored his second goal to send his> team in front to stay, the assist going to defenceman Pierre St. Amand. Dreossi increased the count to 3-1, again St. Amand was respon- sible for setting up the play. The Toros scored, two more goals in the final period, completely dominating play, as the Markham squad ap- peared to, be very fiat. Tom McLaughlin fired the fourth Bowmanville goal, the assist going to Dreossi. Greg Watson notched the final goal of the game with the assist going to Jeff Dawson. The Toros are awaîting word on their oppo- nents for the semi-final round of their playoff series which will probably commence next Saturday in the Memorial Arena. HL., Wood Mînor Bantams Oust Markham in 5 Gomes Now Encounter Playing in Markham Thurs., Feb. 12 Toros needed to win to elîminate'Markham., After.losing the first game in overtime we came back and won the next two games 3-0 and 4-2. This turned out to be the most exciting game so far with these two well matched teamsgiving everything they have to try and win. After a scoreless first period in which, Toros outplayed Markham but.could not score the same hockey Was played in the second, until Toros picked up their fifth penalty and with one minute remain- ing in the- secon'd period, Markham scored on a power play. Toros protested the goal, claiming it was scored with an illegar stick. After measur- ment it proved to be illegal, and the goal was called back, thus ending the second period 0-0. Toros opened fast in the third period when Kevin Noble scored, assisted by Stan Greenham and Rick Simpson. Markham tied it up.. Toros took a 2-i lead again when Stan Greenham blasted a perfect shot p ast their goalie with Randy MacDonald assist- ing. Markham came back again'and tied the score. This ended regulation- time tied at 2-2. Weplayed 10 minutes of overtîme, and again Toros took the' lead when Rick Simpson scored assisted by Car i Chambers and Kevin Noble. Markham again came back and tied the score. This ended the izame tied 3-3 and gave Bowmanville a five points to three lead in a six point series. Penalties Imposed' The Port Perry Minor Hockey Association has taken disciplinary action against two players on the Port Perry Juvenile hockey team for fighting in a game against Uxbridge two weeks ago. OfficiaIs for the hockey association refused to- com- ment on the discipline that would bse imposed on the two players. The association decided to take action against the play- ers following a game against an Uxbridge team that hiad to be canceiled because of the fighting that broke out at one point in the game. The Port Perry players were blamed for causing the outbreak against Uxbridge. Officials for the Minor Hockey Association in Port Perry said early this week that they were waiting for authorization from the O.M.H.A. before they an- nounced what discipline would be imposed on the players. Recreation News The Newcastle Recreation Departm~ent hopes to have teamfs from Waverly Com- munity in the "T" Bail, Atom and Pee Wee. Basebal Leagues, plus teams in Soç- cer, Girls softball. Depending on the number of players, they would play their home games at Waverly Park. Bud Fanning, Director of Recreation stated that MVr. I. Milani is going to set up a diamond at Martin Rond. We hope to build a ýcreative Playground at Martin Road and the Recreation Depart- ment will be installing swings, along with equipment that the Kinsmen Club of Bowmanville is donating to Waverly Park. SThe Blooper Baîl (Lob Bail) League would like to see a few teams out of the, Waverly Community'plus teams from other areas in Bow. The Blooper Bahl Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March l7th in the Council Chambers' Fire-Police Station at 7:30 p.m. Piayground leaders for the two playground in the Waver- ly Area will be chosen from our Playground Training Course., The Director of Recreation would like to seesome cross town rivalry involving a league- with Bowmanville Waverly Community, Orono, Newcastle, Tyrone, Hampton, Solina, Kendal and other areas within the town. During 1975, a number of communi- ties in Darlington and Clarke were involved with Bowman- ville teams. It is the intent of the Directur of Recreation to join Waverly with the rest of Bowmanville. This is for aduit activities also.
