ANNO- -YING - We understand the Duirha.m Regio)n departmient thiat sent those multiple mailings to many residents, asking tEm to fi out mreter readings'for water,, has noïw mailed out apologies to users. H1aven't heard whether the' computer went on a bender and was resqponsible, but maniy complaints have been received here. It must have been a costly goof. Water users were mad enough having to fi outý the forms, but it %was rubbing it in toreceive four or five cards. One chappesgetdte should hire meter readers to relieve unemployment. MTSSED A FEW - Sorry we ran out, ýf time on New Year's Eve while on rounds of ail the parties in the area. We didn't get to Orono, Tyrone or Solina so will have to leave them until next year and try to get an earlier start. As it was, there was Maple G(rove, St. PauI's, Centennial Hall, Legion, hospital, Pentecostal church where a film was in progress, St. Joseph's, the OPP, Newtonville, BI'ownsdale, Newcastle and the Lions Centre here. Everybody seemed tol be ha ving a good time, except those who were working. CHANGE 0F DATE - The Newcastle Lions Bingo that was originally slated for January loth has been postponed to Tuesday, January l7thi, 1978. -,'AC7K IN ACTION - The next Orono Country Jamboree is scheduled for Orono Town Hall, this Sunday, January 8th, at 2p. m. with Fay Adams and the Country Hits and several visiing artists. As usual, Sterling Matlher will be Master of Ceremonies. See Coming Events for mnore details. SWEARING IN- E. Richard Lovekin, recentiy elevated'to the county court bench in Peel County will be sworn in on Monda y January l6th in the Peel county courthouse. In the meantime, he will be exceptionaîîy busy trying to clean'up the legal work in his office in Newcastle. It's going to seem odd when the next election rolîs around without Dick wring for the Liberal candidate. He will be sorely missed. BACK TO NORMAL- Next week, unless something crops up to change plans, things should be more or less back to normal at The Statesman office. Last week, we were not only short one day, three members of the staff were holidaying. Now, they are ail back on the job, but we're a day short because of the Monday holiday. The, mails also have been 'somewhat disrupted so rural news budgets have been arriving Thursdays and Fridays after the paper bas been printed. It's been confusing and frustrating but ail should be wellnext week. TOWN COUNCIL - Next Monday, January 9th, Town of Newcastle council wiil resumne its regular council meetings, hopefuily with al members f ully recovered from the flu or other ailments and a, full docket on the'agenda.
