T AGEDY - Whether we like it or not, the h ockey teams from Europe are showing quite clearly th-at tii y are to p notch players, in superb physical co dition. They have done much to improve the game in Canada by forcing us to concentra te more on our coaching and skills, but we still have a great de il to learn from them. Team Canada's defea t by S weden in the Junior tournament and the Maple Le afs showing against the Czechs on Monday night br ngs the lesson dloser to home. We'll have to shipe up or ship out as they say. Probably the Montreal Canadiens will restore some of our pr ýstige this weekend when they play the -Soviets. Wé certainily hope so. Dreossi lost little time getting that goal back, assisted by Lorne Whitmarsb. Both clubs scored in the final stanza with Jon Clieff scoring the goal for Bowman- ville, assisted by linemnates Greg Watson and Jeff Daw- son. Acton scored the final goal of the contest. This game was extremely well played with both clubs playing well, Bowmanville handed out some very stiff body checks that kept the Acton forwards off balance throughout the game. Chris Clifton was in goal for the Toros and played with a great deal of confidence. The stage was not set for the Championship game between Bowmanville and Saltfleet. Saltfleet had defeated Aurora and Markham to advance to the finals. Chris Dreossi scored the only goal of the opening period for the Toros. He was assisted by defence- man Glen Duncan and bis left winger Brent Neill. There was no scoring in the second stanza, both clubs having many good scoring opportun- ities, but the goaltenders were equal to the task. The Toros were assessed a penalty with less than two minutes showing and Saltfleet pulled their goaltender in favor of the extra attacker. The Bowmanville lads showed a lot of poise, calmly gaining possession of the puck and continually icing to earn the hard-fought victory. Alan Ulrich was in goal for Bow-, manville and was just superb. The McGregor Major Atoms will represent Central Ontario in the International Silver Stick Tournament in Sarnia inter this month.
