I spo-ta1k 233303 NOVICE TOURNEY - A week from Saturday, Novice teamns fromi a wide area will be holding their annual tournamient here. This has always been an exciting event and should be well patronized. More details next week. A fun night is planned at Durham on Januar y 27th when the Hollywood Rejects, a skilfull comedy basketball team will meet the Lords. WISH THEM WELL - While the'MeGregor Hardware Maior Atoms are back home after their Silver Stick experience and ail the snow they went through to get to Sarnia, there is still one Silver Stick entry from here, the Inche Welding Major Bantams. Led by Coach Sonny Hooper, they'l1 head out for Port Huron, Michigan in time for their first game on Thursday against Toledo. It's truly amazing the hockey interest that has developed in the United States in recent years and they are côming up withi some super young teams. We'l1 hope this one isn't quite good enough to stop the Welders ln their opening game. BASEBALL ALREADY? - Believe it or not, practices start next week for Bowmanville senior basebali team. They'li be held at the Sr. Public Schooi gym witb Coach John Stainton in charge. President Doug Smart and his co-ed executive met on Sunday and have things pretty weil lined up. New uniforms and a new name, t he Bowmanville Merchants, will send a sparkling new team onto the field whenever the snow meits enough for them to play. It will take a while to become accustomed to not calling the team the Locke's TV Electrons after ail these years and thanks should be extended to Locke's for their help over a long time. As well, theu new sponsors are to be commended for kicking in sufficient funds toegive the club some real backing for the year. It's stilil too early to say just how many teams will be in the league; that will come later, alýong with the schedule. Ail the Merchants need now. is players who are interested and willhng to work. Everythinqg else appears to be well under control. DURHAM - Police hockey team edged Hamilton Auto 2 - 1 in the Oshawa Town and Hockey league play last week at Donevan Arena.
