WINTARIO GRANTS TO PROJECTS IN DURHAM in the Regional Municipality of Durham from the proceeds of the Ontario Lottery. The amounts range from $5,367,to $135. The, North Oshawa Park Sports Committee is to receive a grant of $5,367 to share in the purchase of hockey equipment. A grant of $3,490 is to be made to the Whitby Girls Athletic Association to aid in the purchase of equipment and awards for 23 teams. The Georgina Minor Softball Association will receive a grant of $2,812 to assist with the purchase of softball equip- ment. Culture and Recreation Minister Robert Welch said today's grants are part of the ongoing Share Wintario program for the support of cultural and recreational facilities. To date in 1978, the ministry has allotted $4.0 million to more than 690 groups and projects across the province. SA grant of $1,616 is to go to the Glengrove Community Basebaîl League in Pickering to aid in the purchase of basebaîl equipment and trophies. The Oshawa Dines Red Wings Pee Wee Hockey Team is to receive a grant of $1,463 for travel assistance to attend an invitational tournament in Thunder Bay. A grant of $1,250 is to be made to the Tyrone Community Hall Board to share in the purchase of photos of local significance by Nehl Newton to enhance the community hall. The Oshawa Firefighters Association will receive a grant of $1,010 to defray the costs of restorîng a 1955 fire truck for community display. A grant of $609 is to go to the Orono Jamboree Orono Country Jamboree is ready to go again at the'Orono Town Hall on Sunday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. House Band of Fay Adams and The Country Hits with Fay, Glory and Don Adams, Legion Literary Winners Local winners in the RoyalCanadian Legion's annual literary contest received their trophies and certif icates at the Legion Hall in Bowmanville last week. The winners are, left to right: Kim Nagel of Bowmanville Senior Publie Sehool; Bernadette Francis of St. Joseph's Sehool; Cynthia Bail of Bowmanville-High Sehool and Tim Sharpe, representing the Pines Senior Public School. Kim Nagel won second place in the zone competitions for a poem submitted in the intermediate category. Bernadette Frances took second place in the zone'stjunior essay category. Cynthia Baîl won first place in the senior poem category atthe zone level and then won first place in the senior poem category at the district level. The district includes 54 branches of the Legion. Tim Share won third place in the intermediate essay competition. The students were among approximately 80 who submitted poems and essays during the competition last year,. Oshawa Heritage Hockey Tournament to assist with the purchase of medallions and trophies. The Motor City Kinsmen Boxing Club in Oshawa is to receive a grant of $336 to share in the purchase of boxing equipment.
