Her parents are Linda and George Childs of Bowmanville. Proud grandparents are Reg and Ruth Gibson of Newcastle, and grandmother Mrs. Edna Childs Omemee. Her great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sowden, and great grandmother Mrs. Kate Seymour, all of Bowmanville. BLA CKSTOCK The weekly senior citizen card party at the town hall in Blackstock hosted eighteen tables. The winners were: lst Mrs. Reid Cook 93, 2nd Isabelle MeLenrol 90, 3rd Ed Harris 86, 4th Adam Sharp 88, 5th Muriel Lawrence 84, 6th Agnes Prescott 80, and low was Bill Mahaffy. A ladies 2 game bonspiel was held on Monday, March 13th with six rinks competing for prizes from Turners Greenhouse. First place was won, by Lorna Edgerton, Donna Kyte, Dianne Gatchell, and Anne Elliott. Second prize went to Cheryl Vogel, Edith McLaughlin, Kathleen Petrie, and Suzanne Rioual. Joan Grove, Elaine Bailey, Jean Mahaffy and Ruby Van Camp received lovely ivy for the third position. Mens curling on Monday evening at the 7:00 draw top- point winner was rink No. 1-R.. McLaughlin, R. Van Camp, J.' Arbuckle, and R. Vice. At the 8:30 draw the top rink was rink No. 11-T. Kemp, K. Van Camp, P. Veldman and D. Elliot. The ladies regular curling schedule has been completed for this season. They will continue to curi until the banquet on April 1st with the purpose of training the novice curlers as the prime objective. On Tuesday the women moved up a position each end so that by the end of the game every team member had played each position twice. A nice by-product is the great time everyone has realizing that the skips sometimes' have trouble being 'lead.' Tuesday evening mixed curling top point rink for the first draw was No. 5 rink- Keith and Wilma Van Camp with Don and Joanne Russell. The top points for the 2nd draw went to team No. 8-Dave and Nancy Barr with Bill and Sandra Thompson. Mixed Bonspiel The third annual Gerald Kelly Mixed Bonspiel was staged on Thursday at the local Arena. Competition was keen and fellowship abounded during the day. At the end of a full day of nine games the President Densil Moore presided over the presentation of the trophy and prizes which had been donated by Gerald and Joyce Kelly. He announced that the'Curling Club Banquet will be on Saturday, April lst and added that tickets must be bought immediately. Gerald Kelly presented the trophy and first place prizes to Neil and Noreen Malcolm, Alice Turcotte and Tina Van Ryswyk. Because of a shortage of available men Neil had to suffer with three women which evidently didn't hurt his score at all. Second prizes were then presented to Gerry and Enid Oke, George Bryant and Carol Locke. George and Marilyn Cochrane had curled the first two games with Gerry and Enid. The high one game winner was the rink of Neil Werry, Elaine Bailey, Herb Swain and Sharon Essery. As usual Neil and Herb had lots of banter to add to the occasion. Everyone went home after enjoying another good day and realizing that it would not have been possible without our new artificial ice. The newest little organiza- tion in town is the Beavers which grow up to be cubs which if your confused is part of the scouts. The Beavers range in age from 5 to 7 with lots of energy. The local Beavers are desperate for more adult assistance as the club is very popular with the young boys. They meet on Monday evenings: for more information call Joanne Swain 986-5389. Investure for the Beavers will take place on April 25th, each boy must have a hat and vest, scarves are being provided by the Scout Mothers Auxiliary. At that time the Beavers must know the motto, law and promise. There are close to seventy cubs and scouts in the area participating in a skate-a-thon to raise money for the local organization. The boys are asking for pledges at pennies per lap, with a maximum of seventy-five laps. The event will take place at the new ice arena in Blackstock on March 30th. Palm Sunday was observed at the Blackstock United Church on Sunday with the sacrament of Holy Communion. During the service the induction of Carl Adams as a new Elder of the church took place. Janet and Marlene Parsons performed beautifully the duet, 'By the Sea of Galilee. " Please get out to worship in this Easter season. A special Good Friday service is being held on March 24th at 11 a.m. at the United Church in Blackstock. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Adams had a special glow about them on Sunday as their daughter- in-law Michelle had a son in the Oshawa Hospital on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Saltermann and Lisa from Oakville and Mr. and Mrs. John Mew from Toronto were weekend guests of Mrs. Austin Beacock. Mr. and Mrs. Don Fleming with Janet, Pamela, and Scott visited their grandmother, Mrs. F. Archer on Saturday. Sunday guests at Mrs. Archer's home were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Archer and Kimberly from Bowmanville; and Mr. and Mrs. Almer Archer of Whitby. Ontario Dairy Princess Visits Maria Booi from Orange- ville, the Ontario Dairy Princess spent several days this last week staying with Louise Van Camp the Durham County Dairy Princes. The two exceptionally talented girls spent the 13th, 14th and 15th of March touring Durham County to improve urban and rural communications. On Monday Sally Barrie, co-ordinator for the Durham County Dairy Princess and Princess Louise Van Camp met Princess Maria Booi at the Flying Dutchman, in Bowmanville. They spent the day talking to pupils at Maple Grove School and North Cavan. In the evening Maria spoke to the Rotary Members in Port Hope. On Tuesday, not letting the damp weather dampen their spirit, they both spoke at the Kendal Public School and visited the United Church Women at Elizabeth Skelding's. In the evening a surprise visit at the Beaver meeting where someone (maybe a beaver) nibbled on their toes. Wednesday morning they visited The Red Cross Roads Nursery School near Bowmanville and the afternoon found them at the Blackstock Nursery School Inc. These visits to the nursery school allowed them to try out 'Miss Moo Moo' (a Gernesy hand puppet. Later that same evenng they attended The Milk Producer's Banquet and Dance at Maple Grove which sported a new look with a Milk Bar complete with beautiful white and chocolate milk, a large supply of assorted cheese and crisp apples. Everywhere they went they left a trail of milk happy people and children with a new look at milk products sporting buttons and badges stating, ' I drink milk. Maria has now returned to her busy schedule. Before coming to the Durham area she ad" h je ih "Meico claiming the virtue of milk. Maria's next stop was to be Ottawa. Will she ever forget Durham County... not a chance. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Bailey of Blackstock and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Townes of Port Perry curled in the St. Patrick's Bonspiel in Annandale on Saturday, March 18th. They were dinnér guests of Mr. and Mrs. Norm Campbell of Pickering the same day. Mrs. Campbell (nee Dawn Black) attended high school with both Neil and Elaine and is a long time friend of the family. Several from Blackstock enjoyed the Annual George Stone Real Estate Bonspiel in Port Perry on Saturday. The O.N.O. once again provided many couples with a good evening of dancing at the Blackstock Recreational Centre. Ross Jackman presented the music for the annual 'Hard Times' dance; a tasty sub sandwich and coffee failed to slow the evening as everyone just kept on dancing. St. John's A.C.W. met at the home of Lorne Edgerton, on Thursday, March 16th. After a short devotional on thoughts of Easter given by Lorna, president Sharon Umphrey led the business part of the meeting. There were several items to be discussed, one being the Federation of Agri- culture Banquet on March 28th. Our next meeting will be on April 19th, when we plan to attend the spring deanery meeting in Oshawa. All ladies of the church are invited to attend. Marion Larmer then spoke to us about the newly formed Community Care project of Scugog township. Volunteers are most welcome in order to provide its many services. The latter are available to all senior citizens, a very worth- while venture. Next, we enjoyed some very colourful and interesting slides of Holland, England and Florida, shown by Ken Crawford. Our meeting concluded with a tasty lunch and a friendly visit. On Sunday, at St. John's Anglican Church, the begin- ning of Holy Week, Palm Sunday, was observed. Palms decorated the church and each person in the congregation came forward to receive a palm leaf from Rev. Rose. This was followed by a thought-provoking sermon on Palm Sunday and how it relates to us in present day. Good Friday service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelly, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Elaine and Esther enjoyed Sunday afternoon dinner in Fenelon Falls with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Walker and Carol. Mrs. Stewart Dorell is down from Charlton visiting with relatives in the Blackstock area. The 4-H Hamburger Helpers met on Tuesday after school at the United Church and opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. By the way last weeks fish was prepared by Elizabeth Kelly not Elaine. Cathy Clark read the minutes and roll call was answered with a variety meat dish. Marilyn Green and Cathy Clark prepared pan fried liver. The leaders brought some Dutch liver cheese for all to enjoy. Nancy Wygerde then led the discussion of varietly meats. The next meeting, to be held on the Tuesday during the spring break will be a pot luck dinner. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. LONG SAULT Mrs. Ted Hall and children, Oshawa were Monday luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. Baker. Mrs. Allie Mitchell, Toronto, spent a couple of days with her niece Mr. and Mrs. G. Kovacs and girls. Miss Louise Kovacs enter- tained eight of her school chums Friday night to celebrate her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. F.O. Smith, Bowmanville, were Sunday supper guests of Miss G. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. W. Vaneyk were Monday luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Vaneyk, Tyrone. Mrs. Robert Cameron was hostess for the club 50 meeting Tuesday evening, March 14 when there were 8 members present. Pres. Mrs. Leavens opene'd the meeting and conducted the business. Scripture John 15 1-14 was read by Mrs. Cameron and Devotional on "Truth" was ably given by G. Smith. Plans were completed for catering to Mr. and Mrs. R. Gibson's wedding anniversary, sêlling lunch at sale and also having booth at Darlington Sports Centre Bazaar, June 17 and 18. Mr. R. Cameron than took us all on a very scenic trip to Arizona and back which everyone enjoyed.
