Ong(ais won the Molson Diamond Indy at Mosport on Sunday and set a new track record ta capture the pole position during qualifying. With time still remaining in bis qualifying period, Ongais decided to try andf break Mario Andretti's Grand Prix style car record. The only thing hie broke, however, was his car. Mechanics had to work well into Sunday morning in order to repair the car and make it fit for Sunday's race. And, evidently, they did a good job as Ongais finished more than 41 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger. inspector for the Commission Sportif Internationale,' a brancb of the Federation Internationale Automobile, the world governing body of auto racing, said the body may not sanction the event. "Lt was decided at a quarterly meeting of the FIA last December to inspect Mosport at the first major international race of the year" he said. "It was also decided at that time not to grant Mosport a licence to stage a Grand Prix in 1978 because of certain problems." Foyt and AI Unser were forced out before the haif way point witb mechanical problems. Foyt's car failed to perform as expected ail weekend and bis failure to finish came as no surprise.
